At Edmonton’s Food Bank, we envision a community where hunger does not exist and everyone has access to an adequate and nutritious supply of food. This year, as part of our vision, we are launching a Seed Bank. This program is designed to help people with low incomes grow some of their own produce and save money. If a person has a container garden, a yard, a community garden plot, or even an indoor growing space, they can grow their own food! Our Seed Bank is here to help them get started.
This generous donation of seeds is made possible by local stores, garden centres, and even seed saving gardeners. The Edmonton's Food Bank Seed Bank will provide seeds free of charge to help reduce the cost of food.

For example, individuals with indoor planter boxes can get seeds for lettuces, greens and herbs. For outdoor containers we have seeds for carrots, peas and beans. We also have seeds for larger spaces to grow anything from greens to squash and more!
For less than the cost of a bag of carrots, a gardener can grow a bountiful crop in a season. They can supplement purchased produce by growing some of the more expensive foods themselves! We want to make it easier for people to get more fresh produce, eat healthier, save money, and enjoy growing their own food!
If you are low income and are interested in free garden seeds, please visit Edmonton's Food Bank Annex Building on Wednesdays and Fridays between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm (WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!).
If you or your group wish to get seeds from Edmonton's Food Bank Seed Bank please email our program enhancement team at foodhub@edmontonsfoodbank.com or call 780.425.2133 extension 231.
A special thank you to the Edmonton Public Library for inspiring the creation of our Seed Bank! Their initial vision provided us with a foundation and a valuable template, allowing us to bring this initiative to life. We are grateful for their innovation fostering community access to seeds and sustainable food practices.
