The partnership between Walmart and Edmonton's Food Bank has been very broad, right from the beginning. Staff from the 13 Edmonton stores have come to our warehouse to volunteer and have ran active campaigns in their stores to support us. When Walmart has surplus food that is not being sold for various reasons, we are then able to access the food.
In 2018, grants from local stores had contributed $7,000 to help fuel our trucks as they glean from grocery stores throughout Edmonton as part of our Retail Food Program.
For the third year, Walmart partnered with Food Banks Canada for the national Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign. The 13 stores raised a total of just over $130,000, with the Edmonton-West location raising the most of just over $16,000.
