Canstruction returned to Edmonton for the 12th year in a row. For 2019, four teams from the fields of engineering, construction, architecture, etc. competed. The goal of Canstruction is to feed and inspire the world one can at a time. The participating teams were EPCOR, PCL Construction, ACI Architects Inc. & Delnor Construction Limited, and Associated Engineering.

The teams each built a structure that was made primarily out of canned food. Each structure was judged for various awards such as best meal, best use of labels, best overall design. Associated Engineering built Pikachu – I choose you to end hunger, which was awarded for Structural Ingenuity. EPCOR built Rooty the Bear – We CAN not BEAR Hunger Anymore, which was awarded People’s Choice. PCL Construction Management Inc. built the Genie and his magic lamp – Wishes CAN Come True, which was awarded Best Original Design, Best Meal, Best Use of Labels & Most Cans. ACI Architects Inc. & Delnor Constructions Limited built the Infinity Gauntlet.

Robyn Schommer, Senior Advisor of Community Investment at EPCOR said that by doing activities such as Canstruction and volunteering at the food bank, it gives employees an opportunity for them to engage in the community in a meaningful way.
