Sun-Oka Apples Fundraiser in support of Edmonton's Food Bank!
Sun-Oka Fruit Farms, a fifth-generation family farm in BC’s Okanagan Valley, nationally renowned for their premium quality apples, will be selling some of this year’s freshly-picked crop locally, as a fundraiser in support of Edmonton’s Food Bank.
The initiative aims to not only provide the community with access to exceptional apples at below-retail prices, but also help combat the pressing issue of food insecurity faced by many in the Edmonton area.
For every ten-pound box of apples sold through the fundraiser, the farm will donate enough to provide a hearty meal to local residents in need.
With the relentless surge in food prices, putting a nutritious meal on the table has become a challenge for many families and individuals. Edmonton’s Food Bank continues to experience a sharp rise in the number of people seeking assistance, and they need more support than ever before.
Devin Jell, owner and operator of Sun-Oka Fruit Farms, says partnering with Edmonton’s Food Bank makes a lot of sense. “There’s definitely a synergy there. We’re both in the business of feeding people.”
Jell also finds selling his apples face-to-face to be far more gratifying than just releasing them into the vast grocery distribution chain. Eliminating the middlemen and buying directly from the grower means supporters of this fundraiser will be paying far less than regular grocery store prices, for higher quality apples.

Marjorie Bencz, Executive Director of Edmonton’s Food Bank
“Having a direct relationship between consumers and food producers is something I find great value in and I think more and more people are beginning to rediscover that value. I really enjoy getting out and selling our apples this way. Watching people’s faces as they bite into one of our apples for the first time just never gets old. I get to see some great reactions. Most people just don’t realize what biting into a really good quality apple is supposed to feel like and taste like. They’ve just never experienced it before.”
