Edmonton's Food Drive Frequently Ask Questions

Question

What should I donate? What can I donate?

Answer

Right now we are very short of canned soups, especially tomato and mushroom soups which are very versitaile.

In general our most needed items are: canned beans, soup, vegetables and fruit; canned fish or meat; pasta and pasta sauce; small jars of peanut butter, healthy kids snacks and baby formula.

However, you can donate other commercially packaged non-perishable foods as well. Feel free to donate your favorites if you want!

Question

What do I do if my donation wasn't picked-up?

Answer

Oops. Sometimes the volunteers miss a house on pick-up day. Let them know your donation was missed by emailing info@albertafooddrive.com after 1:00 pm on Saturday.

Or drop it off the next time you go grocery shopping. Most major grocery stores have food donation bins just past the cashiers or at the entrance/exit of the store. You can also drop it off directly at our warehouse on 11508 120 street.

Question

I didn't receive a collection bag and don't feel comfortable donating online, how can I help?

Answer

Feel free to mail a cheque payable to Edmonton's Food Bank to P.O. Box 62061, Edmonton, AB T5M 4B5.

You can also text FEEDYEG to 20222 and make a $10 or $20 donation, which will appear on you cell phone bill.

Question

I didn't receive a donation bag. Can I still donate?

Answer

Definitely! You can donate non-perishables the next time you are in the grocery store, most have a food donation bin just past the cashiers or at the entrance/exit of the store. You can also make a monetary donation by cheque, through the donate button at the top of the page or by texting FEEDYEG to 20222 and make a $10 or $20 donation, which will appear on you cell phone bill.

Question

How can the Food Bank accept food donations from the public with COVID-19 circulating

Answer

Scientists and food safety authorities around the world have not found evidence to suggest that food is likely to transmit COVID-19. For more information visit the Canada Food Inspection agency website.

Also, after arriving at our warehouse, non-perishables are left in large bins for a few days before making their way into hampers. Our staff and volunteers are also still wearing masks and gloves in our warehouse. Volunteers are being encouraged to wear masks and work in cohorts during collection.
