2024 PARTICIPANT: PCL CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT INC.
Staying hydrated is important – just like helping those in need! We’re taking a stand(ley) against hunger in our community by supporting Edmonton’s Food Bank in its mission of alleviating hunger today and into the future. While insulated stainless steel tumblers can keep your beverages hot or cold all day – we’re not hot and cold over the issue of hunger, which impacts tens of thousands of people in Edmonton every day. Giant water tumblers have taken over the internet this year, so PCL Construction decided to take the hype surrounding these giant cups and make it even bigger (literally)! We’ve filled this mug full of essential proteins like beans, tuna, and sardines. PCL is proud to hype up CANstruction and Edmonton’s Food Bank again in 2024 – and this is one trend that won’t go out of style!

2024 PARTICIPANT: V3 Companies of Canada Ltd. - HaCANa Matata: Feeding the Pride
Our sculpture recreates the iconic Pride Rock from Disney’s “The Lion King”. Inspired by the timeless tale of courage, family, and the circle of life, our design aims to not only capture the essence of Pride Rock but also make a meaningful impact by providing nourishment to those in need. The base of Pride Rock is made from sturdy canned goods which form the stable foundation, symbolizing the support and strength of the pride. The core structure is stacked strategically to mimic the rugged and majestic appearance of the rock formation. Surrounding Pride Rock, a vibrant skyline represents the African sunset that illuminates the horizon, adding a colorful backdrop to the scene. But this more than just a sculpture – it’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and the power of collective action. By bringing together the magic of The Lion King and the mission of Canstruction, we hope to inspire others to join us in the fight against hunger and make a difference, one can at a time.

2024 PARTICIPANT: McElhanney Ltd. - Muttart CANservatory: The Food Pyramid
The Colosseum. The Taj Mahal. The Great Pyramids. Blocks. As long as people have had hands, they have been stacking things on top of other things. In the spirit of stacking things, and as an homage to Peter Hemingway’s iconic river valley landmark, Edmonton’s Muttart Conservatory, McElhanney is constructing “The Muttart CANservatory”. This food-can sculpture pays tribute to the real Muttart, and to the beauty of its surrounding environment. The landmark’s namesake, Gladys and Merrill Muttart, were well known for supporting charitable organizations. Like Mr. and Mrs. Muttart, McElhanney has a strong tradition of giving back and Caring for our Communities. We wanted to follow in their footsteps by creating this sculpture and supporting a fantastic cause: the Edmonton Food Bank and the many people who rely on their services.

2024 PARTICIPANT: DES Engineering Ltd. - CANner McDavid
This year, we wanted to immortalize a certain hockey player loved in Edmonton with a structure made of CANS. CANner McDavid will inspire the people of Oil CANtry! Best of luck to the team! We CAN do it! Huge thanks to the Edmonton Food Bank and to the CANstruction Edmonton team for letting us be a part of it again.

2024 PARTICIPANT: Bantrel - Imperial T.I.E. Fighters
Bantrel believes that we are an integral part in Building Canada’s Future. We are strong supporters of the Edmonton Foodbank and CANstruction, sharing the belief that a better future is built one can at a time. A core value of Bantrel’s is to Care for What Matters, and that is what brings us back every year to celebrate being part of a community that cares. The choice of structure this year is a futuristic nod to the spirit of May the Fourth, a Star Wars theme featuring two Imperial T.I.E. Fighters flying through a starry backdrop. We celebrate with all of our competitors that we are a force for good in our neighbours’ lives and in our communities, as we work together to fight hunger. May the Force be with you!
